Women’s cricket is on the rise, and we’re proud to be leading the way as the only hardball ladies’ team in Medway.
We play both hardball and softball, giving players of every ability the chance to get stuck in, learn the game, and enjoy the buzz of being part of a growing sport.
Our hardball team competes in the Kent Championship league, while our softball side battles it out in the Kent Softball League against our closest local rivals — always with plenty of laughs, team spirit, and a healthy dose of competitiveness.
The squad is wonderfully mixed: from county level players to those who simply love the social side of cricket, with ages ranging from 15 to 50. It’s a team where everyone brings something unique, and everyone belongs.
We train every Tuesday evening, all year round — Summer and Winter — and our matches take place on Sunday afternoons, making cricket a regular highlight of the week.
New players are always welcome, whether you’re picking up a bat for the first time or rediscovering your love for the game. Come join us and be part of something exciting!
Caroline - Ladies Founding Player & Vice Chair
1. I’ve never played cricket before – can I still join?
Absolutely! Many of our current players started with no previous experience. Our training sessions are designed to support complete beginners in a fun, encouraging environment.
2. Do I need to know the rules before I come?
Not at all. We’ll teach you everything you need to know at your own pace. You’ll pick it up quickly with a mix of coaching, practice, and friendly games.
3. What should I bring to my first session?
Just comfortable sports clothing, trainers, and a bottle of water. We provide all the cricket equipment needed—bats, pads, helmets, and balls.
4. Will I be fit enough?
Yes! Cricket caters to all fitness levels, and beginners ease into training gradually. Sessions include warm‑ups, basic skills, and optional fitness activities.
5. Is cricket safe?
Yes—safety is a priority. We provide protective equipment and teach proper technique. Soft‑ball cricket offers a gentler introduction with minimal risk.
6. What’s the difference between soft‑ball and hard‑ball cricket?
Most new players start in soft‑ball and move to hard‑ball only when they feel ready.
7. Will I have to play in matches straight away?
Not unless you want to. You can train socially for as long as you like. When you feel confident, we’ll help you ease into friendly games or league matches.
8. Is there an age limit?
We welcome adult women of all ages. Whether you're in your 20s, 30s, 40s, 50s or beyond, cricket is inclusive and adaptable for everyone.
9. Will I get to meet new people?
Definitely! Our women’s team is welcoming, social, and supportive. Many players join to make friends as much as to play sport.
10. How much does it cost to join?
We keep membership affordable, and your first session is usually free. Contact us for details on annual membership or pay‑as‑you‑play options.
11. What should I wear for matches?
Once you start playing, the club will guide you on match kit. For training, general sportswear is perfect—no special clothing needed.
13. I’m nervous about trying a new sport. Will I fit in?
Absolutely. We pride ourselves on being friendly, non‑judgemental, and encouraging. Everyone remembers their first session—we’ll make yours enjoyable, not intimidating.
What kit do I need?
For both softball and hardball games you will need:
Players often additionally have:
How do I buy it?
Our kit provider is Surridge who have a dedicated page for HHCC here: Home | High Halstow CC
The direct link for the playing shirt is here: High Halstow CC - Slice Short Sleeved Shirt - Women's Teams | High Halstow CC (please speak directly to Caroline Bucknall to discuss your player number before ordering anything)
If you would like branded playing trousers you can find a couple of options here:
High Halstow CC - Active Playing Pant | High Halstow CC
High Halstow CC - Blade Playing Pants | High Halstow CC
There is also a selection of other HHCC branded kit available from NXT Sports: Find Your Club - High Halstow Cricket Club - NX Teamwear
What about protective equipment and a bat?
The club has all of the kit that you will need for batting and bowling. The only item we don’t provide is personal groin protection aka. Ladies Abdo Guard. Therefore if this is required - it’s not strictly necessary but some choose to wear it - then you will need to buy that for your own usage. These are available from most good online cricket retailers.
