Despite a defeat to local rivals Borstal away on Saturday, Joe Murray’s 2nd XI mustered enough bonus points to be unassailable Kent League Division 8 champions.
High Halstow started the day some 35 points clear of Borstal in second spot, who were also their opponents on the day, needing a mere 5 points to be confirmed as champions.
Having elected to field first Halstow pegged Borstal back to 158 for 8 in their 40 overs, with 2 wickets apiece for Daniel Baptiste, Chrissy Lapthorn and Jamie Kingsbrook.
But despite a decent start from the ever-young Steve Lapthorn and Jay Patel, thereafter wickets fell in a clump – the visitors ended up falling 30 runs short of the target.
But the 10 bonus points that High Halstow accrued on the day were enough to see them over the line.
A great day and season for all who have played for the 2s this year. A great year for the experienced players in this side who have guided the team to success, to the youngsters too who have come from the 3s and have done so seamlessly.
Next week, is the final week of the league season with Offham the visitors to Rayners Meadow for our 2s, but for 2026, Division 7 now beckons.
